Dr Watson trained in urological surgery in Brisbane, completing the RACS Fellowship in 1993. Following this, he undertook subspecialised training in both London and the USA.
He completed a Reconstructive Urology Fellowship at Guy’s Hospital, London, which focused on bladder reconstruction. In the United States, he completed a Urological Oncology Fellowship at the University of Miami, Florida. This involved clinical and surgical training, as well as laboratory research. He has published extensively on all aspects of urological cancer, particularly bladder and prostate cancer.
Since his return to Brisbane in 1996, he has continued to develop his subspecialty interest in the diagnosis and management of urological cancer, particularly bladder, prostate and kidney cancer.
In 2008, he became involved with the introduction of the first Da Vinci robot in Brisbane, at the Greenslopes Hospital, and as an accredited robot surgeon, has been performing both robot assisted radical prostatectomy, as well as continuing to perform open radical prostatectomy.
At the Mater Hospital, South Brisbane, he has a clinical practice in adult urology, focusing on urological cancer.
He is currently a collaborative author for the ‘International Urological Disease Classification Consensus Statement on Bladder Cancer Management.’ Research interests include clinical and basic science phpects of bladder and prostate cancer.
